Our Story
As a new mom, like many others, I found raising a bilingual child to speak both Vietnamese and English challenging! I loved all the bilingual books out there, but I process language best through audio. At the same time, my husband, who is not Vietnamese, wanted to learn simple Vietnamese words to connect more with our child. That moment sparked an idea, why not create something that makes language learning fun, engaging, and accessible for the whole family?
That is how Bé Yaya was born, a children’s learning book designed with love to turn language learning into an adventure. I wanted each page to engage different learning styles and make the Vietnamese language feel accessible to everyone. That meant including features like an audio button to hear the Vietnamese word spoken aloud, phonetics to help sound it out, English translations for clarity, and vibrant illustrations to keep it visually engaging. Every detail in Bé Yaya was designed with care, so that families, regardless of their language background, can learn, connect, and explore together.
At its heart, Bé Yaya is about more than just learning words, it is about creating joyful moments and making language fun and accessible for everyone. One word, one picture, and one sound at a time!
Who is Bé Yaya?
Bé Yaya is a character inspired by my daughter, whose adventurous spirit, love for travel, fascination with cameras, and playful collection of headpieces bring endless joy to our lives.
In Vietnamese, the letter Z doesn’t exist, so for a time, my mom affectionately called her Yaya instead of her actual name, Zaia, which always made us smile. Later, I discovered that my late grandmother was also nicknamed Ya in her home village in Vietnam. With such a heartfelt connection across generations, the name naturally stuck, and it felt like the perfect fit for the book so I thought, why not share it with the world?
